Atlético de Madrid, with Julián Álvarez, Rodrigo De Paul, and Nahuel Molina in its squad, visited Red Bull Salzburg this Wednesday in the last match of the Champions League, which has introduced a new format. The match took place at 5 PM Argentina time at the Red Bull Arena and was broadcast live on Disney+ and Flow Eventos. Diego Simeone's team was in a direct qualification zone for the round of 16 but needed a victory to secure it.
The probable lineups were as follows: Red Bull Salzburg: Blaswich, Terzic, Blank, Baidoo, Dedic, Gloukh, Bidstrup, Nicolás Capaldo, Moussa Yeo, Adam Daghim, Dorgeles Atlético de Madrid: Oblak, Reinildo, Le Normand, Witsel, Nahuel Molina, Gallagher, Koke, De Paul, Giuliano, Julián Álvarez, Antoine Griezmann
The match was broadcast in Argentina through the Disney+ platform and could also be followed digitally via Flow.
For this new edition of the Champions League, UEFA has implemented significant changes in the tournament format. Instead of the usual 32 teams distributed in eight groups of four teams, this time 36 teams will participate and play a league phase. During this stage, each team will play eight matches, half as home and the other half as away.
At the end of this phase, all teams will be positioned in a single overall table. The top eight teams will advance directly to the round of 16, while those ranked ninth to twenty-fourth will have to play a two-leg playoff round. On the other hand, teams in the 25th position or lower will be eliminated from the competition without the possibility of playing in the Europa League, as was the case in previous editions.
